On Wisdom

God has blessed us with many things. One thing he has blessed us with is wisdom. Wisdom is one of those gifts that can be perverted by our human nature to control and dominate other people. Too often I have used "wisdom" to justify my actions. I have used my so called wisdom to elevate myself above others.
I find it funny that almost every person thinks that their way is the right way. Take a look at politics. The elections were yesterday... and politicians on both sides were basically calling the other party stupid and unwise and detrimental to the country. Each party believes that they have wisdom and common sense on their side. So with everyone believing that they have wisdom on their side, and using it to elevate themselves above others, what is wisdom? Is there really such a thing? How does it fit in with Gods plan for our lives>

We all have big ego's. I believe that is important to understand what wisdom is... and its limitations.

James 3:13-18 says

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

I love James... I think that it would be awesome if everyone memorized this verse. also Read 1Co 1:20-31

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."

So what does wisdom from above look like? it is pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere, and it brings peace.


If we build ourselves up to be wise, to put ourselves in a higher position than others... put ourselves in a position where we are boastful and false to the truth... beware. This is not the wisdom from above...

God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

So seek the Kingdom of God... And be humble... know the limitations of wisdom. Know the difference between the wisdom from above and the wisdom from elsewhere.

If you feel you are lacking wisdom let us humble ourselves and ask God for it.

Jas 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

There is so much wisdom in the word of God. What a gift.
